against hope

find me a corner
somewhere i can hide in
somewhere i won’t be seen
where i can nurse the pain

or better yet a doorway
somewhere i can exit
a way out of this lifetime
where my tears can cease

or against hope be my saviour
put your arms around me
protect me from the monsters
which are all i’ve ever known

Very poignant. Your poems are always extremely moving.

  2. This one was inspired by an advertising leaflet insert in a magazine I bought. It told of a five week old kitten found in a box, in a barn, with it’s foot caught in twine. Luckily someone heard it mewing and it was rescued, but the idea of being that young and that alone hit hard. The poem helped me to purge the emotions raised by the story.
