the only abiding sin

by damommza & sunovawot

flames bite my lips, lick my face
rip my soul to pieces
pain that etches, sears my bones
ache that never ceases

loss and grief, entwined as one
locked deep inside this cell
what was good has gone so wrong
how fast this angel fell

I wanted to reign supreme
with legions by my side
sin of flesh could never be
condemned by sin of pride

unrepentent in my task
battling man’s salvation
God’s mercy, for me, came late
Hell, my destination

man will reach for heavens heights
the angels yearn to fly
demons wallow in their filth
yet none of us ask why

that is where my mistake came
speaking thus out of turn
never ask the one in power
unless you wish to burn

    • I may not have had enough coffee yet this morning but I don’t get it, sorry. 😦 Definitely not enough coffee, when I have to remove the third “e” from “coffeee” 😳

      • Oh, to be locked up without trial is to be interned and it is a pun on eternity.
        * I probably jumped ahead too fast on the meaning of “locked deep inside this cell” πŸ˜‰ *

My contribution to this came from from a cartoon discussion sunovawot and I had leading us to Jessica Rabbit and I thought of the “I’m not really bad, I was just drawn this way..” quote :-))

    Before 10am, “coffeee” HAS 3 “e’s” :-))) LOL

      • Ah, I see, in this part of the world those of us of an age are very familiar with internment, (it was used for some years in Northern Ireland), I just didn’t connect the dots. And having just made, but not yet drunk, my second coffee, I would hate to tell you how many typos I made while typing this πŸ™‚

  3. So…you’re a poet (an awesome one, at that!) not a typist…I do so admire your gift of words!

    • Thank you, this one was primarily damommza’s work. πŸ™‚ And typing is one of many skills I never acquired, but somehow I manage to fake it. πŸ™‚

Thank you txtgurlgurl!! Sonovawot and I put the poems together by me starting them and he finishing them. We did have one where he suggested the beginning and I was able to finish it and we were both very happy with the results! πŸ™‚ In spite of his modesty, he types and proofreads better than I do! πŸ˜€

  4. You two certainly make a wonderful team!!! I’ve been reading your poetry the past 2 days and thoroughly enjoying each one. Of course, being here at work sometimes limits the time I can spend lurking or talking. So, thank you to each of you for so much enjoyment. You guys are so talented or gifted; however you want to look at it.

    • Thank you, again, I can honestly say I would write poems even if nobody read them, but I will admit, it doesn’t hurt when somebody says something nice! πŸ˜€
