lovesong

clasp me to your bosom
sing me songs and tell me stories
wash the sadness out
in floods of healing tears

courtesy costs nothing
wipe my eyes and call me darling
wait a solemn second
before you let me go

chains bind us the old days
to memories of laughter
awkward conversations
on what it means to love

generous with time
you’ve always been my strong arm
and I have always laid
my head upon your breast

This is a very lovely poem, bittersweet yet heartwarming. I find it very maternal, rather than romantic. The way a mother soothes a child who is no longer a child but still feels the same love and protection when held in her arms. 😀

  2. I don’t know, maternal perhaps, I also think of the closeness between some siblings, or that can exist between friends… I like this *very* much. 🙂

    • Thank you, you and damommza are both right, the title is “lovesong” but it is a familial rather than romantic love. A love that brings comfort rather than passion 😀
