shattered dreams

shattered dreams they squeeze me
how can I keep breathing
the chains that bound us then
broken and caked with rust

callous is the heart
that gave me into darkness
the words that we once shared
are powerless it seems

what must I look like now
when all I knew of beauty
has chosen other victims
and softly calls them love

OH! The last two lines are like a dagger to the heart. Very moving poem and very well done! 😀

    • Thanks, this is what’s left of a longer poem, that I mined to get, what I consider, the gold 😀

Whenever you say that, I imagine a vast graveyard of unused poem parts being picked clean by buzzards.. 😆 😆
