peace

words and worlds I had to spare
then you are gone and I alone
drain another bottle dry
and curse the silent telephone

dreams no more and time to grieve
behind the mask I’m crying still
while others reach out here am I
bereft of hope or heart or will

I’ll take this cup and drain it dry
wash down the pills draw one last breath
and look upon the past and know
the only peace for me is death

and at the moment my sight fades
    you finally come to see
that all the things you wanted most
    were, all along, in me…

now you’ve returned this one last time
too late to change the tide
the end had finally come to me
    without you, hope had died…

the sight last seen by setting sun
    lay curled upon the floor
two bodies sharing just one space
    and peace forever more…

No, thank you. Your poem came in just as I was shutting down the laptop and I read it. Then read it again. Then thought a bit, then read it a third time, then shut the laptop but my attempts at sleep were constantly interrupted by the rest of the poem that was playing out in my head so, I got up and turned the laptop back on, and let the story continue. Without your story..there would be no place for my ending to sit.. I really loved your poem. 😀 😀
