tear

tear down my fortress
deprive me of rights
bathe my complexion
in harsh city lights
I’ll call out to strangers
and beg for their aid
see promises broken
before they are made
yet I will not fight for
I haven’t the heart
I will just watch as
you tear me apart
and when it is over
and I am wrung dry
just toss me aside
and leave me to die

That’s a very powerful poem with, as always, an amazing ending. Applolsauce! 😀

    • Thank you 😀 it took me a surprisingly long time to come up with what is, in retrospect, the obvious last line 😀

    • Just rereading it now I came up with an alternative last line
      “with no tears to cry”
the line itself would be less effective, but add new meaning to the title 😀
