a likely story

come he said and with a grin
grabbed my arm and dragged me in
and all around his creatures sat
tall and short and thin and fat
snarling, sneering, each and all
waiting just to see me fall
but I am made of sterner stuff
and I had had more than enough
so grasped him by his kipper tie
and poked him once in either eye
kicked his shins and slapped his face
to put him firmly in his place
but for the nonce I had forgot
his friends, and there were quite a lot
they tackled me from every side
and bowled me under like a tide
my fate at this point looked quite grim
for I had never learnt to swim
but I am a resourceful sort
to take advantage I’d been taught
so as one jabbed and another hit
I squealed and squirmed and bumped and bit
and worked my way out of the mob
intent upon their bloody job
and with a final massive heave
took to my heels to take my leave
but one, not fooled, he held me fast
determined I would breathe my last
and in his hand he held a knife
with which he meant to take my life
at this point, I regret to say
I fear I fainted dead away
to find out how this story ends
you’ll have to ask him and his friends

This is one of THE BEST poems you have ever written!! *proceeds to stand on a chair and applaud as loud as possible* Excellent and so well played!! The last line..it’s always the last line that makes your poems!!

    • Thank you 😀 It just happens like that, I’ll have no ideas for a while, then several turn up at once, though it is rare to get four workable ideas in one day 😀
