searcher

I came in search of happiness
or so it has been said
personally I don’t recall
somehow I dropped the thread
of all the things that I held dear
somewhere in the past
the only things that I had left
were slipping from my grasp
oh mother mine I prayed to her
to bring me back my truth
or if that was beyond her
I’d settle for my youth
but mother smiled a listless smile
and faded from my view
leaving me to mourn alone
unless I counted you
though you had never said a word
to brighten up my days
just snidely snipped and snarled at me
in nasty noisome ways
and yes I know that you weren’t mine
at least of that I’m sure
if my life was a sickness
then you were not the cure
and so at last I came to see
though it cut me to the grain
happiness was not for me
my search had been in vain

I think “downbeat” and “pessimism” are also good tags. Well written, well done but very sad..a poem that truly makes me feel the emotion in it. Very good. 😀
