slip

stir yourself for time’s a-wasting
consequences rock
let me be the first to greet you
now we’re off the clock
sell yourself a little short then
pass on down the line
take a bow to those observing
relax you’re doing fine

lick your lips or someone else will
heaven knows we’re set
on the road to rack and ruin
we may get there yet
all those times you begged for succour
no-one seemed to hear
summer passed as we were dozing
bellies full of beer

save yourself a heap of trouble
reaching for the sky
no-one know where is tomorrow
no need though to cry
I would give you all your heart needs
to embrace the day
take my hand and feel my fingers
slowly slip away

You can easily change the order of the stanzas and it still tells a complete story..the last two lines though..are a kick in the stomach..I think my heart would break if I felt someone’s fingers slowly slip away… This definitely needs a “poignant” tag.. πŸ˜€

    • I did change the order, just before posting, though the ending remained the same. I’ve added the poignant tag πŸ˜€

I know what I like! This!
