word

when the priests they came to see me they were baying for my head
not for aught that i had done but words they’d heard i said
and standing before witnesses they told me i should know
if god would only grant them blades they’d strike the fatal blow
but here i still stand living and of all the gods i’ve heard
not a one has proved to be more real than a word

This reminds of the “Minute of Silence” that they wanted to hold on the floor of the Senate yesterday for the mass shooting in Florida. The “Minute of Silence”, which has been held more than 60 times, was broken by the shouts of “Where’s the Bill”. If the praying worked, they wouldn’t have to keep doing it. Your last line is the best.

    • Words have power, but only so much as we are willing to ascribe to them.
In a rational world, any harm caused by words could be fixed by words. Unfortunately, we are living in anything but a rational world.

Triumph started banning newspapers who write something about him that he dislikes, Although he took away their press credentials, he invited them to sit in the audience. He needs the press, he needs the words, and although he says he will toughen the first amendment and not allow newspapers to write things he disagrees with, without the newspapers, he’s just yelling in to the bottom of a very deep and empty well. Words really do have power, that is why the first amendment to the constitution IS the first. 😀

        • Trump is not the first to discover that if you live by the media, you die by the media. And is certainly not the first to want to silence dissenting voices. However, assuming an amendment to an amendment requires the same procedure as a new amendment, I doubt he would be able to get a supermajority in both houses, let alone the 38 states necessary to ratify. 😀

The worst he could do is take away press credentials to media outlets he does not like so they could not cover his news conferences ..but then, in solidarity, others would join and they would all ignore him.

            • Considering the vast majority of any given audience will have a video camera in their pocket, I’m not sure what the point of withdrawing accreditation is 😀
